General Practice of Architecture
We offer a complete range of professional services, from preliminary design through the administration of the construction process. We give consideration to each project and client regardless of size. We are equally comfortable meeting with a board of directors or sitting over a cup of coffee at the kitchen table discussing design options.
Wonder where to start? We are able to assist you with identifying the requirements and potential pitfalls for your project early in the development process; prior to the onset of expensive permitting and design work. Our feasibility studies include investigating site and building limitations, zoning and code analysis and preliminary design work to establish project requirements. We are also able to offer accurate and reasonable opinions of probable project costs including fees, permits, insurance and operating expenses as well as construction costs.
Permit Identification and Evaluation
We can assist you in the procurement of all required local, state and federal permits including the acquisition of Vermont’s Act 250 permit.
The Americans with Disabilities Act requires that persons with disabilities be provided with equal access to buildings and services. We are well versed in this civil rights legislation as well as other local and state codes and regulations related to accessibility. This experience allows us to direct you to the most economical solution to providing accessibility in your project.
We can analyze how to best comply with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Structures. Through our experience we have developed a pro-active approach to working with State and Federal officials to provide economical and practical solutions to this often overwhelming area of work.
Site inspections throughout the construction phase provide you with the assurance the work is proceeding as planned. We monitor and evaluate the Contractor’s performance, approve shop drawings and review monthly requisitions for payment. In addition, we evaluate product substitutions to assure you that the work installed is the best quality for the price.
Is the building structurally sound? Why is the basement damp? Are the heating, plumbing and electrical systems sound and adequate? We can help determine the answer to these questions prior to or after the purchase of your property.
